Determination of Cement Content for Soil-Cement Stabilization

At the onset of any Construction project, it is essentially required to evaluate the properties of founding media in order to assess its suitability. In some cases where founding media do not exhibit the required characteristics, ground improvement techniques can be deployed to improve the properties of founding strata. Different ground improvement techniques can be used depending upon their technical feasibility and in-situ site requirements. One such technique is mixing cement with excavated soil and compacting it in layers to improve its mechanical properties.

Soil stabilization using cement is the permanent alteration of properties of the soil to improve its engineering performance. However, deciding on percentage of cement to be added in soil is a challenging task. Percentage of cement to be added in soil shall be derived so that it is both technically feasible and commercially viable.
