Asphalt Batch Plant Boom: Manufacturers Gear Up for India's Road Surge

Asphalt batch mix plants are seeing a surge in demand owing to the new roads, highways and expressways being built across the country, and also due to the rehabilitation of existing roads and the Government’s directives on milled materials usage. NBM&CW takes a look at the emerging business scenario of Asphalt Batch Mix Plants and the manufacturers’ preparedness in meeting the rising demand.

Asphalt batch mix plants

The business dynamics of asphalt batch mix plants in India are reaching new levels. This evolution is driven by the rapidly emerging classification of road construction projects. In addition to the ongoing development of long stretches of National and State Highway projects, project developers and owners are now undertaking a larger number of expressways, freeways, and links of varied lengths and spans, leading to acquire higher capacity asphalt plants (160-260tph). Interestingly, a new demand has emerged from the road construction sector for asphalt batch plants of lighter capacity (100-120tph), capable of performing rehabilitation works within a given timeframe, a need that was not prominent in the country earlier.

The newer, complex, heterogeneous road construction and repair projects are making it necessary for the plants to produce varied volumes and character of asphalt mix, along with low operating costs. The plants are expected to be compliant with the project site conditions and needs. They must be adaptable to process the varied character of virgin, milled aggregates, bitumen, RAP, etc. plus, the burners in the plants must be built to burn all kinds of fuel.

To meet all these requirements, plant manufacturers are widening their product portfolio to include plants of various capacities and using burners that can burn different types of fuel so that they can meet all kinds of construction needs. They are also enhancing their product support and services to ensure smooth operations of their plants across their lifecycle.
