Remotely Piloted Aerial Vehicle (RPAV) Based Bridge Monitoring

Dr. Naveet Kaur, Senior Scientist, Bridge Engineering & Structures Division, CSIR-CRRI, New Delhi, shares information on the various types of applications of RPAV technology in BHM, including visual inspection, non-destructive testing, and structural health monitoring.

Bridges are critical infrastructure that require regular inspection and maintenance to ensure safety and functionality. Bridge Health Monitoring (BHM) helps to identify the structural health of a bridge and detect potential problems before they become catastrophic. The use of Remotely Piloted Aerial Vehicles (RPAVs) for BHM has become increasingly popular in recent years due to their ability to provide a safe, efficient, and cost-effective means of inspecting civil infrastructure. RPAVs equipped with cameras and sensors can capture high-resolution images and data that enable engineers and researchers to assess the condition of structures such as bridges.
