DMRC Achieves TBM Breakthrough on Tughlakabad–Aerocity Corridor, Completes 792m Tunnel

DMRC

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has achieved a major milestone in Phase 4 of its network expansion with the successful completion of a 792-metre-long tunnel on the Tughlakabad–Aerocity corridor. A Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) made the breakthrough at the Tughlakabad Railway Colony site, marking another key development in the underground section of the corridor. The tunnelling work was executed by civil contractor Afcons Infrastructure Ltd.

The corridor will feature two parallel tunnels between Tughlakabad and Tughlakabad Railway Colony stations to facilitate up and down train movement. The newly completed tunnel was constructed at an average depth of 18 metres using a 91-metre-long TBM. A total of 559 concrete rings, each with an inner diameter of 5.8 metres, have been installed to line the tunnel.
