Eicher Trucks and Buses, a division of VE Commercial Vehicles (VECV), has delivered its first batch of six fully built electric Eicher Skyline Pro-E 12m tarmac buses to IndiGo at Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru. The deployment marks Eicher’s entry into ground support equipment for the aviation sector and highlights its commitment to sustainable mobility.

The electric buses will be used by IndiGo to transport passengers between the terminal and aircraft stands, supporting the airline’s efforts to reduce its environmental impact. The partnership between Eicher and IndiGo reflects a shared focus on clean energy, operational efficiency, and future-ready infrastructure, reinforcing the shift towards zero-emission solutions in India’s aviation industry.

Suresh Chettiar, Executive Vice President Bus Division, VECV, said, "We are honored to partner with IndiGo in their journey towards greener and sustainable ground operations at Kempegowda Airport - recognized for its striking aesthetics and sustainable practices. With a broad range of buses optimized for demanding applications and backed by connected 24X7 service, Eicher is already a familiar name for citizens, school children and factory staff in Bengaluru. With these tarmac coaches, Eicher stands committed to sustainably transporting the 42 million passengers that use this gateway to India’s Silicon Valley each year.”

The Skyline Pro-E 12m electric tarmac bus has been engineered to meet the specialized demands of airport operations. Designed with a seating configuration of 17+D and space for 52 standees, the bus offers high passenger capacity while ensuring safety, comfort, and ease of movement. Powered by advanced lithium-iron phosphate battery technology and equipped with a CCS2 fast charging system, the vehicle is optimized for continuous ground movement within airports. Its full air suspension, power-assisted steering, and disc brakes on both front and rear axles provide a smooth, stable ride, ideal for the demanding operations of India’s airports.

With in-house EV powertrain development and a growing focus on building the charging ecosystem through strategic partnerships, VECV aims to contribute meaningfully to institutional electrification at scale. This collaboration with IndiGo goes beyond product deployment—it represents a shared step towards enabling critical infrastructure sectors to adopt clean mobility in a practical and impactful manner.
