Hindalco Awards Contract for India’s First Doppelmayr RopeCon® System in Odisha

Hindalco Industries Limited, part of the Aditya Birla Group, has awarded a contract to Doppelmayr for the installation of India’s first RopeCon® system at the Aditya Alumina Refinery in Kansariguda, Odisha. The innovative aerial conveyor will span approximately 2,300 meters with an elevation drop of 241 meters, supported by just four towers, to efficiently transport 1,500 tonnes per hour of bauxite.

The RopeCon® will also have the capability to transport tailings in the opposite direction in the future. Designed to minimize land disturbance, the system will pass over agricultural and challenging terrain while maintaining safe ground clearance. In addition, it will generate up to 907 kWh of energy during operation, reinforcing Hindalco’s commitment to sustainable and eco-friendly solutions.

Commissioning of the RopeCon® system is scheduled for Q3 2027.
