India’s Largest Container Terminal Inaugurated at JNPT by PM Modi & Singapore PM

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong virtually inaugurated Phase II of the Bharat Mumbai Container Terminal (BMCT) at Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT).
Operated by Singapore’s PSA International, the expansion doubles BMCT’s capacity to 4.8 million TEUs, making it the largest container terminal in India. Developed with an investment of SGD 1.7 billion ($1.3 billion) under a public-private partnership, it represents the biggest foreign direct investment from Singapore into India.
The terminal features 2,000 metres of continuous quay, enabling berthing of multiple mega-container ships, and spans 200 hectares with integrated multimodal facilities. Connected to the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) with six compatible rail tracks, it links directly to over 63 inland container depots. Once the Western DFC is fully operational, the hub is set to enhance multimodal logistics efficiency under the PM Gati Shakti initiative.
Man Infra Construction Ltd was entrusted with the development of an 110-hectare land parcel for this port, awarded in June 2023 through a competitive tender.
“We are proud to have successfully constructed the Bharat Mumbai Container Terminal Phase II, a flagship project that elevates India’s position on the global maritime stage. This milestone reflects MICL’s commitment to engineering excellence, innovation, and sustainable infrastructure development. We remain dedicated to delivering world-class projects that support India’s growth aspirations and strengthen international trade connectivity,” Manan P. Shah, Managing Director, MICL Group
