Paradip Port to Drive ₹19,433-Crore Industrial Projects in Odisha

Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, has provided details on Paradip Port-led industrial development in the State of Odisha. The projects in the pipeline include five major infrastructure initiatives:
- Development of a Multimodal Logistic Park (MMLP) with an estimated cost of ₹260 crore over 100 acres.
- 8 MMTPA COIT Terminal costing ₹2,371 crore on 277 acres.
- 24 MMTPA Iron Ore Pellet Plant valued at ₹7,466 crore on 277 acres.
- 14 MMTPA Iron Ore Pellet Plant costing ₹6,325 crore over 100 acres.
- 4.6 MMTPA POL Terminal with an investment of ₹3,011 crore on 58 acres.
These projects are funded through the internal resources of the Paradip Port Authority (PPA) and the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. Ports other than major ports (non-major ports) are under the administrative control of the State Government. Dhamra is an operational non-major port in Odisha, and there is no investment commitment in Dhamra Port under the Sagarmala programme.
The employment generation potential of these projects is estimated at over 10,000 jobs. PPA conducts Environmental Impact Assessment studies for each project and implements an environmental management plan.
PPA coordinates closely with the State Government on matters related to land acquisition, utility shifting, and infrastructure development. Regular meetings are held with district authorities and concerned State departments to secure timely approvals. Furthermore, to address issues concerning the State Government promptly, the Ministry holds Maritime States Development Council (MSDC) meetings and encourages coastal States/UTs to convene State Sagarmala Committee meetings. These interactions aim to create synergy among various stakeholders for the expeditious implementation of Sagarmala projects.
