PM Modi Launches Development Projects Worth ₹5,400 Cr in Durgapur, West Bengal

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone, inaugurated, and dedicated to the nation development projects worth over ₹5,400 crore during his visit to Durgapur, West Bengal. The projects span across Oil & Gas, Power, Road, and Rail sectors.

Key announcements include:

  • BPCL City Gas Distribution Project in Bankura and Purulia worth ₹1,950 crore to supply PNG and CNG, and generate local employment.
  • Durgapur-Kolkata Section of Urja Ganga Pipeline (132 km) worth ₹1,190 crore, enabling clean fuel access across multiple districts.
  • Flue Gas Desulphurization Systems at Durgapur Steel and Raghunathpur Thermal Power Stations worth ₹1,457 crore to promote cleaner energy.
  • Doubling of Purulia–Kotshila Rail Line (36 km) worth ₹390 crore to enhance freight movement and connectivity.
  • Two Road Over Bridges at Topsi and Pandabeshwar under the Setu Bharatam scheme, worth ₹380 crore.

Highlighting Durgapur’s legacy as a steel and labour hub, the Prime Minister said these initiatives will strengthen connectivity, boost the gas-based economy, and support India’s “Make in India, Make for the World” vision. He noted that the projects will spur economic activity and create new employment opportunities for the region’s youth.
