PWD Clears Key Hurdle for ₹960 Cr Ganga Bridge Project in Prayagraj

The long-awaited four-lane bridge over the Ganga, connecting IERT Ground (Baghara) to Hetapatti, has moved a step closer to construction. The Public Works Department (PWD) has submitted all necessary documentation to the state government, clearing a major administrative hurdle.
If approvals proceed on schedule, the Government Order (GO) for the project is expected within the next three months, paving the way for construction to begin between November and December 2025.
The proposed bridge, estimated at ₹960 crore, will extend 3,660 meters (about 3.7 km) with an additional 4 km approach road. It will be supported by 60 pillars, including 20 within the river’s main flow, and will require the acquisition of 8–12 hectares of land.
Announced by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath during a cabinet meeting in Prayagraj at the Maha Kumbh 2025, the project is expected to significantly boost regional connectivity. Once complete, the bridge will benefit residents of Sahson, Chhariga, Phulpur, and Pratap Pur, while also improving travel for commuters from Jaunpur, Azamgarh, Mau, and Gorakhpur.
