Amit Shah inaugurates ₹825-crore Veer Savarkar Sports Complex in Ahmedabad

Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah inaugurated the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex in Naranpura, Ahmedabad, built at a cost of about ₹825 crore. Touted as the largest sports complex in India and among the most modern globally, the facility offers world-class infrastructure of international standards.

Speaking at the inauguration, Shri Amit Shah highlighted the transformation in India’s sports landscape under Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s leadership. He noted that India’s sports budget has increased from ₹1,643 crore in 2014–15 to ₹5,300 crore, enabling major reforms in sports training and infrastructure.

The Veer Savarkar Sports Complex is set to position Ahmedabad as a major sports hub. The city will host the World Police and Fire Games in 2029, followed by 13 international tournaments by 2036. The Government of India is also making preparations to host the Olympic Games in Ahmedabad in 2036.
