Centre Releases Over ₹8,000 Cr for Chennai Metro Phase II Project

The Central Government has released over ₹8,000 crore towards the Chennai Metro Rail Phase II project, with ₹3,000 crore disbursed in 2025 so far. The ₹63,246-crore mega infrastructure project is being jointly funded by the Centre, the Tamil Nadu Government, and multiple international financial institutions.

Minister of State for Urban Affairs Tokhan Sahu, responding to queries in the Lok Sabha, informed that ₹5,219.57 crore was released during FY 2024–25. For the current fiscal year (2025–26), the Centre has allocated ₹8,445.8 crore under its contribution to the project.
