India Celebrates 58th Engineers’ Day Honoring Sir M. Visvesvaraya

Happy-Engineer's-day

September 15 is celebrated every year as Engineers’ Day to honor the birthday of Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, the legendary engineer, statesman, and pioneer of India’s early economic planning. This year marks the 58th Engineers’ Day since the tradition began in 1967, recognizing his vision and the vital contributions of engineers in building and shaping modern India. Born in a village in Karnataka, today one of the country’s high-tech hubs—Sir Visvesvaraya was awarded the Bharat Ratna in 1955 for his outstanding service to the nation. Beyond his engineering achievements, his visionary works, Planned Economy for India and Reconstructing India, laid intellectual foundations that continue to inspire India’s development journey.

The theme for Engineers’ Day 2025, “Deep Tech & Engineering Excellence: Driving India’s Techade,” reflects the critical role engineers will play in the nation’s future. Emerging fields such as Artificial Intelligence, Quantum Computing, Semiconductors, Robotics, and Advanced Materials are reshaping global competitiveness and will be central to India’s growth story. Unlike traditional technologies, these deep-tech domains demand sustained research, rigorous scientific application, and a long-term vision.

As India steps into its Techade, the message is clear: engineers must not only pioneer new technologies but also ensure they translate into sustainable solutions that benefit society at large. The focus ahead is on embracing deep tech with foresight, fostering collaboration across research, industry, and policy, and ensuring that innovation drives both economic growth and social progress.

Leading experts share their insights on innovation, deep tech, and the role of engineers in shaping India’s future.

On National Engineers’ Day, we at Action Construction Equipment celebrate the spirit of engineering innovation driving India’s Techade. The construction equipment industry is undergoing a profound transformation, with technologies like automation, electrification, and telematics redefining the way we build. Through continuous investment in R&D, our advanced digital solutions ranging from real-time telematics and IoT-based monitoring to predictive maintenance and intelligent fleet management, are enabling smarter, safer, and more efficient operations. With features like remote-control capabilities, load monitoring systems, and sensor-based collision avoidance, our equipment is designed to enhance both operator safety and job site productivity. Looking ahead, we are actively advancing digital twin technology to further revolutionize performance optimization and training, strengthening our role in building India’s infrastructure future.

Abhay Ghirnikar - Director of Manufacturing , TKIL Industries
Today, we must face a stark reality: according to a Report, 83% of engineering graduates in India have not yet secured a job or even an internship offer. This isn’t just a statistic; it’s a call to action. Engineers are more than seat‐time or credentials; they are innovators, problem-solvers, the quiet force behind every breakthrough. Their talent, grit, and technical mastery define what’s possible.

At TKIL Industries, we are proud to stand with engineers who don’t settle. Our teams in mining, cement, sugar, green hydrogen, rail batteries, and CBG continually convert challenges into solutions with precision, creativity, and sustainable thinking. On this Engineer’s Day, I honour every engineer – past, present, and rising, whose brilliance is shaping our industries and proving that when opportunity meets engineering excellence, transformation follows.

Ajit Kumar, Vice President, Rodic Digital & Advisory
