India, Netherlands Strengthen Ties with Strategic Partnership on Water

India and the Netherlands

India and the Netherlands have deepened their cooperation under the Strategic Partnership on Water (SWP), which aims to intensify collaboration by engaging policy experts, academia, knowledge institutes, private companies, and local communities.

As part of this initiative, an Indo-Dutch Centre of Excellence (CoE) on Water has been established in collaboration with IIT Delhi and the Government of the Netherlands. The CoE focuses on critical areas such as urban water and river management, artificial intelligence and geospatial technologies, river dynamics modelling, water quality monitoring, and river economy and finance.

The Centre is actively involved in projects including the Urban River Management Plan and pollution abatement infrastructure monitoring.

To support its institutional framework for the next 10 years, an allocation of ₹36.23 crore has been made. In July 2025, the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) released ₹5.98 crore to IIT Delhi for the CoE’s activities.
