L&T Renewables Secures An Order for BESS-Integrated Solar Plant in Bihar

BESS-Integrated Solar Plant in Bihar

L&T’s Renewables business vertical has secured a major engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) order to develop a grid-connected 116 MWac Solar Photovoltaic (PV) plant with a 241 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Kajra, Lakhisarai district, Bihar.

This project marks the extension of an earlier phase, taking the total co-located storage capacity at the Lakhisarai renewable site to 495 MWh — the largest such project awarded by a state utility in India.

Designed with a 4-hour BESS, the system will enable energy time-shifting by storing surplus solar power and dispatching it during peak demand. The battery system will incorporate liquid cooling technology for improved power density, safety, and operational life.

The project supports the Government of India’s push for co-located renewable energy with storage and aligns with Bihar’s Jal-Jeevan-Hariyali Abhiyan, contributing to sustainability, job creation, and long-term energy security.

Earlier, the business had bagged an EPC order for a 275 MW solar PV project in Gujarat, reinforcing its growing portfolio of efficient and flexible clean energy solutions.
