Kuno National Park Halts Highway Project Through Cheetah Corridor

Highway Project

Kuno National Park has stopped construction of a highway stretch citing safety concerns, as the route cuts through a proposed cheetah corridor. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), however, has denied any violation of conditions.

The 63.4 km Goras–Shyampur highway, estimated at ₹209 crore, is planned to connect Rajasthan’s Sawai Madhopur with Madhya Pradesh’s Morena and Sheopur. Of this, around 32 km falls within ecologically sensitive zones, including Kuno National Park in Sheopur district and Kailadevi Sanctuary in Rajasthan.
