MDoNER Approves ₹45.31 Cr Road Project in Assam to Boost Northeast Connectivity

Road Project

To enhance road connectivity in Assam, the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER) has approved a ₹45.31 crore project for constructing a 15-km stretch of the Mangaldoi–Mazikuchi road (KM 11+000 to KM 26+200). The project, sanctioned on August 6, 2025, will be implemented under the North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDS) – Roads.

The new road will directly link Mangaldoi, the headquarters of Darrang District, with Bhergaon in Udalguri District, reducing the travel distance by 7.2 km. It will also improve access to seven educational institutions, including Deomornoi College, and enhance connectivity to prominent tourist sites such as Pathurighat Krishak Shahid Memorial, Khotora Satra, Lakhimpur Pukhuri, and Ramgaon Pukhuri.

Fully funded by the Government of India, NESIDS is a key initiative under MDoNER to develop critical infrastructure across the Northeast. The ministry implements and monitors the scheme in close coordination with state governments as part of its broader development strategy, which includes four flagship programs: PM-DevINE, NESIDS – Roads, NESIDS – OTRI, and schemes under the North Eastern Council (NEC).
