PM Modi Inaugurates Assam Bioethanol Plant, Lays Foundation for Polypropylene Plant at NRL

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the Assam Bioethanol Plant and laid the foundation stone for a polypropylene plant at Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) in Golaghat, Assam. The initiatives aim to promote clean energy and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.
Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister highlighted Assam’s vital role in strengthening India’s energy capabilities, noting that petroleum products from the state contribute significantly to national development. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to further enhancing this strength.
Shri Modi also informed that earlier in the day, he inaugurated a modern plant that produces bioethanol from bamboo, calling it a matter of pride for Assam. He emphasized that the new projects will drive industrial growth, accelerate the state’s development, and generate opportunities for farmers and youth.
“India is currently the fastest-growing major economy in the world”, stated the PM, remarking that as the country progresses, the demand for electricity, gas, and fuel is also rising. He highlighted that India has long been dependent on foreign sources for these energy needs, importing large quantities of crude oil and gas. As a result, the nation has had to pay lakhs of crores of rupees annually to other countries, which in turn boosts employment and income abroad. Shri Modi emphasized that this situation needed to be changed. He affirmed that India has now embarked on the path of becoming self-reliant in meeting its energy requirements.
