Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate India Maritime Week 2025 in Mumbai from October 27–31, where he will deliver the keynote address at the Global Maritime CEO Forum.

Describing it as a “historic opportunity to showcase India’s maritime strength,” Sonowal said the event will see participation from over 100 countries and more than 100,000 stakeholders, reaffirming India’s position as a rising maritime power. Investment opportunities worth nearly ₹1 trillion in shipbuilding, port-led development, eco-friendly logistics, and coastal connectivity will be unveiled during the event.

Sonowal also announced that two luxury cruise ships worth ₹250 crore are being built for deployment on the Brahmaputra River under the Cruise Bharat Mission, set for launch in 2027. Additionally, over ₹1,000 crore is being invested in inland waterway projects in the Northeast, including a ₹239 crore ship repair facility at Pandu and new tourist jetties to boost river tourism.

“India Maritime Week is not just an event, it is a movement,” Sonowal said. “It will inspire global leaders to invest in India’s growth story and accelerate our vision of becoming a top maritime nation by 2047.”
